In and around Wangaratta
Situated at the juction of the Ovens and King Rivers and less than two and a half hours drive from Melbourne, Wangaratta is the ideal destination as a base for touring North East Victoria. It's also great for hospital or medical appointments, and to find a lovely country weekender!
North East Victoria is famous for the outstanding attractions in the region. These include:

Winton Motor Raceway
Winton is a 15 minute drive from the Ryley Motor Inn, near Benalla. This raceway hosts V8 Supercars & many other race meetings all year round.
Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail
Fully-sealed bicycle path commences in Wangaratta & takes a route via the picturesque Ovens Valley - 97km to Bright (15km side link to historic Beechworth).
Ski Resorts & Alpine Activities
Mt. Buffalo is a 1 hour drive & Falls Creek & Mt. Hotham approx a 2 hour drive
Ski, walk, horse ride, mountain bike, hang glide, paraglide, abseil & rock climb in our magnificent Alpine National Parks.
Great Alpine Road Scenic Route
Commencing in Wangaratta, 306km of fully-sealed all weather road travels east crossing Victoria's highest alps, magnificent natural scenery, descending to Bairnsdale gateway to the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.
Glenrowan
Take the 10 to 15 min drive to Glenrowan and visit the historic Ned Kelly siege site, museums & the orchards in the foothills of Warby Ranges.
While you're there visit the Wineries - Morrison's, Auldstone and Bailey's Winery & Cafe.
Beechworth, Yackandandah, Chiltern
All approx a 30 minute drive. Visit the historic towns of the 1850s gold rush, the famous Beechworth Bakery, antique shops, galleries, craft & historic relics. The Beechworth Gaol and La Trobe gardens. Amulet Vineyard is just one of the many wineries in and around Beechworth – there are about 30 in total for you to enjoy.
Opera in the Alps is held every January in a magnificent setting.
Lake Mulwala & River Murray
45 minute drive to Beautiful lake Mulwala where you can enjoy water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boats, fishing & tourist boat cruises.
Milawa Gourmet Region
15 minute drive from the Ryley Motor Inn.
The famous Brown Brothers and 10 other wineries, plus Milawa Cheese Factory, several restaurants, Milawa Mustards, olives, honey, nuts, berries & more.
King Valley Wine Region
Vibrant Italian community with over 14 wineries, in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range; Adrenalin White-water Rafting in the King River.
The famous La Dolce Vita festival is held here annually in November.
Rutherglen Wine Region
About a 30 minute drive from here is the home of the well known Parker Pies! Also featuring 20 wineries, some now 6th generation of the same family producing world renowned Muscat & Tokay, the historic castle & cellar door of All Saints Winery and venue for the famous Winery Walkabout Festival annually on the Queen's Birthday weekend.
Wangaratta - home to Australia's no. 1 Jazz Festival
The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz is the biggest and best Jazz Festival in Australia! Held on the weekend just prior to the Melbourne Cup each year, you are sure to find something appealing at this great event.
The Wangaratta festival of Jazz & Blues features national and international artists and includes workshops, master classes and special events throughout the region.
All accommodation in town is usually booked out well before this weekend, so be sure to book with us early.

Jubilee Golf Club Wangaratta is a challenging 18 hole championship course. It's playable all year round and borders the Warby Ovens National Park in North Eastern Victoria.

Lake William Hovell
Lake William Hovell provides a vast recreational area for fishing and boating. The entrance to the Alpine National Park is at the southern section of the Lake. Discover the countless tracks for four-wheel driving, fishing spots, walking and bike mountain trails.
Paradise Falls
Paradise Falls is in the Alpine National Park outside of Cheshunt and is well worth the visit. The viewing platform is a stepped track of about 500m in length. The track leads down to underneath the falls where you can walk under the cliff face behind these falls.
Power's Lookout
It is said that this lookout was a vantage point for bushranger Harry Power to view approaching troopers during his period of notoriety in the north-east in the 1860s. The views of the Upper King Valley & the Alpine National Park are amazing. A walking track with a series of steep ladders provides the opportunity to climb to a viewing point at the most northern point of this rocky outcrop.
Brookfield Maze
Brookfield Maze is a traditional puzzle hedge maze, the object being to find the centre of the maze where there is a viewing platform.
