The history of our location

Where the Ryley Motor Inn is located has a long history.

A hotel called The Horse & Jockey Hotel began life orignally on the goldfields. It was then dismantled and re-erected on this location in Wangaratta by James Blake in the 1850s.
The El Portego Motel was built on the site in 1976.
This was renamed Ryley Motor Inn in mid 2001.
This is a family run business and we - your hosts Greg & Gloria Tobias - have run the motel since July 2006, firstly as Leaseholders but in 2012 we purchased the Freehold. We started renovating the residence and motel rooms as soon as we purchased the freehold.

We were both born and raised in Wangaratta and look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful home town.
